It depends on the severity of your symptoms. If your dentist has diagnosed the need for a root canal and you are managing mild, intermittent discomfort, waiting a week or two is often acceptable as long as the situation is being monitored and you are following your dentist’s recommendations for managing pain and preventing infection in the meantime.
However, if you are experiencing severe, constant pain, visible swelling in the face or gums, fever, or signs that an infection is spreading, waiting two weeks could allow the condition to worsen significantly.
An untreated dental infection can spread to the surrounding bone, into the bloodstream, or to other areas of the head and neck, creating a potentially serious health risk. If your symptoms escalate while you are waiting for your scheduled appointment, contact your dentist immediately, as they may need to see you sooner, prescribe antibiotics, or adjust your treatment plan.
At Dens Dental Studio, we prioritize patients who are in pain and work to schedule root canal treatment as promptly as possible.
